Hirohiko Araki (荒木 飛呂彦, Araki Hirohiko) is a Japanese manga artist, primarily known for being the author of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

  1. 1960 - Hirohiko Araki was born on June 7th in Sendai, Miyagi, Japan. He grew up with his parents and younger identical twin sisters. He was also fascinated by horror movies and Western comics, which later influenced his art style.
  2. 1979 - Araki made his professional manga debut under the name Toshiyuki Araki (荒木 利之, Araki Toshiyuki) with Poker Under Arms, a one-shot published in Weekly Shonen Jump. This marked the beginning of his career in the manga industry.
  3. 1983 - His first serialization was Cool Shock B.T., about a young magician who solves mysteries. It was first published as a pilot one-shot chapter in Fresh Jump on October 23, 1982, before being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.
  4. 1987 - Araki achieved overwhelming success when he released JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. This manga would prove to be his masterpiece, remaining one of the longest-running manga series, still serialized almost 40 years later. For comparison, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has 136 volumes, while One Piece has 111.
  5. 1988 - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood (part 2), many seeing it as a necessary introduction to the eccentricities and depth of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure world.
  6. 1989 - JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders (part 3), began it's serialization and skyrocketed in popularity. For many, this set of volumes is the point at which the series really had its start.
  7. 1993 - The anime adaptation (OVA) of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure begins production with the first part consisting of 6 episodes, although it won't be widely recognized until later.
  8. 1992 to 1999 - Araki continues to work on the manga, with the Diamond is Unbreakable (part 4) being released in 1992, followed by Golden Wind (part 5) in 1995, and then Stone Ocean (part 6) in 1999.
  9. 2000 - The anime adaptation (OVA) continued with the Battle Tendency (part 2), consisting of 7 episodes. Only part of the plot of Stardust Crusaders (part 3) is retranscribed in this adaptation.
  10. 2004 - Araki published Steel Ball Run (part 7). It also marked JoJo's shift from Weekly Shonen Jump to Ultra Jump, targeting an older audience.
  11. 2009 - Araki is invited to present an exhibit at the prestigious Louvre in Paris, France. This exhibit displays his work : Rohan At the Louvre, a character with their own set of spin-offs originating from his JoJo Bizzare Adventure series.
  12. 2011 - The crossover event with GUCCI X Hirohiko Araki X SPUR, it was a collaboration between the fashion company Gucci, the women's fashion magazine Spur and Araki. With this it's also the start of JoJolion (part 8).
  13. 2012 - The 25th anniversary of JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, with this came the adaptation into an animated TV series. It begins with Phantom Blood (part 1), and Battle Tendency (part 2), which is the first season of the anime.
  14. 2014 to 2021 - The anime adaptations of Stardust Crusaders (part 3), Diamond is Unbreakable (Part 4), Golden Wind (Part 5), and Stone Ocean (Part 6) were released.
  15. 2019 - Exposition : "Ripples of Adventure", in celebration of JoJo's 30th anniversary, a major exhibition of Araki's original works and previously unpublished content was held in Tokyo.
  16. 2022 - "JOJO Magazine", first published on March 19th by Shueisha to celebrate JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The magazine features exclusive illustrations, interviews with Araki, and original short stories, providing fans with new insights into the series and its creative process.
  17. 2023 - Araki began writing The JOJOLands, the ninth part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
  18. 2024 - Araki continued writing The JOJOLands while expanding his artistic projects. In July, he unveiled The Fountain Boy, his first public art piece in Osaka. In November, he released New Manga Techniques, a book exploring antagonist creation and AI's impact on manga.
